“The radio blasting, the girls are glancing, the dash is dancing with gleaming dials. Grace space race.”

Timbaland is back with his catchy beats and tunes with “Scream”, his fifth single from his second album, Shock Value. The video for it was… not so good. He and everyone else involved in its production could’ve done better. I’m not alone in this sentiment. I’ve seen forums and message boards with threads and posts about the video, and not all of them were too kind. The song itself isn’t so bad and the video kind of threw it off track. I still think it stayed true to the standard r n b or hip-hop videos. That is to say, it depicted cars and women and the video just oozed with luxury (money concept still there). Did you guys notice the cars that the two girls, the sexy Nicole Scherzinger and Keri Hilson, were singing and dancing to? I think one of them (it was Nicole’s, I guess) was a Buick Riviera, second generation. That would be the 1966 to 1970 model.

The Buick Riviera’s second generation model was actually redesigned for 1966. The changes it had undergone were a wider and longer body. One will be quick to notice that the vent windows are no more. The 1966 model housed a 6.9-liter Nailhead V8 engine. The good news regarding its revamp? It became more spacious! Now the Riviera can accommodate up to six passengers. There were options available, such as the bucket seats and the Strato-bench seat with armrest. The Gran Sport package was still made available, of course.

By 1967, the Buick Riviera would’ve remained the same if not for the improvement in its engine. Instead of the 6.9-liter Nailhead V8, it was now powered by a 7-liter V8 engine which kicked off 630 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. The options included for this model were disc brakes that came with Bendix 4 piston calipers (front wheels). Customized interiors were also an option, presenting clients with Strato-bench and Start-bucket seats.

1970 was the year of body changes. This time around, the Buick Riviera sported noticeable headlights and rear fender skirts. The change goes beyond the exterior, though. The engine was made even better when it made use of a 7.4-liter V8. This was actually the largest engine ever that Buick produced. Its horsepower was at 370, with a torque of 500 lb-ft.

In the early days of Buick, way back in its first generation, is advertisement call was “stunningly smart.” And they were right. This is one car that really lived right up to its reputation. I wish I could say the same for the video, though.

If rock and roll has sex, drug and music then r n b/hip-hop has cool cars, a zillion bling-blings and hot girls. Lil Wayne’s latest video titled “Lollipop” is proof to that. Have you seen the limo-International truck fusion at the start of the video? It’s crazy! You can already hold a party in there! Just like what the artists did in the video. It’s like they were partying in this swanky vehicle only to arrive at another party-like venue. Ahh… The stuff that goes on in music videos of that genre.

But I won’t yak about that confusing yet amazing ride. I’d like to focus on something a bit more toned down. Well, compared to the other vehicle featured, anyway. There was this shiny, lustrous red 1964 Chevy Impala featured towards the end of the video. It sure looked like a lollipop to me! Hey, did you know that this certain Imapala had a production number of 889,600? That’s right. It figures hundreds of thousands of people wanted to own a cool ride like that. It was Chevrolet’s most luxurious full-size car. The 2-door convertible of this Chevy Impala was powered by a 4.1-liter I6 engine with 250 cid and155 bhp. Its body had undergone some redesigns and was based on the B platform. This platform was General Motor’s and was used typically in coupes and sedans. Oh yeah, the station wagons used this type of body as well.

Simply put, the 1964 Chevy Impala was a ride that’s meant to impress and perform. To impress and perform. That’s probably the reason why it was chosen to appear in the “Lollipop” video.

There is nothing faster than a video about cars and chicks that will capture a guy’s attention. No, I’m not referring to Jessica Simpson’s stint in “Dukes of Hazzard” movie. I meant Rihanna’s music video for “Shut Up and Drive.” There were cars everywhere and did you take notice of the yellow car that was one of the two that went for a little drag racing? Yes, that one. It’s a Porsche 914 that comes with a body kit.

This particular car was introduced during 1969. It is powered by a six-cylinder 2-liter engine and gives off 110 horsepower. Top speed, you say? That’s 220 km/h, thanks for asking. Its lifespan was from 1970-1976 and was the most controversial Porsche car model that ever existed due to its use of a couple of Volkswagen auto parts. One of its fascia features, a squared-up styling, made this car distinctly Porsche. Its fine weight balance owed it to the midengine placement. If you’re wondering whether this Porsche 914 could ever properly accommodate two large people, then the answer would be yes. This is due to the roomy cockpit it was created with. Below is a quick rundown of the engines that it sported:

1970-1974: 76 hp for an engine size of 1679cc
1974-1976: 72 hp for an engine size of 1795cc
1973-1976: 91 hp for an engine size of 1971

The short-lived but nonetheless still favored Porsche 914 had the length of 158 inches and weighed 2,100 pounds. Its wheel base in inches is 96.5. This car may not ne sold today but it sure was deemed worthy enough to be included in Rihanna’s video.

My co-worker’s ex who was trying to win her back made her listen to a particular song…

I need you boo
I gotta see you boo
And there’s hearts all over the world tonight
Said there’s hearts all over the world tonight

And of course she made me listen to it. The song was surprisingly good and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Chris Brown is responsible for it. The video struck me as both pop and artsy at the same time. It goes well with the song itself. But did anybody notice the hot red car that the girl was driving during the first part of the “With You” video? It’s a Mini Cooper Convertible and it’s something I don’t mind being seen around with. If I don’t stop myself, I’m going to end up wanting every car I see in the music videos that I like.

The 2008 Mini Cooper Convertible is available in two trims: Convertible Base and Convertible S. This model’s remarkable upright front windshield gives off a different feel when driving. Chrome is used in front headlight bezels, grille surrounds, rear light cluster, and the waist finisher. The engine performance of this hot car is possible because of it 1.6-liter, four-cylinder, 16V engine which gives off a top speed of 193 km/h. The car can go from zero to 62 mph in just 9.8 seconds. If you’re concerned about the environment (a very, very good thing if you are) then you should know that its carbon dioxide emission is 175 g/km. Safety is not overlooked, not with this Mini. It has a reinforced body structure and the standard airbags that will keep your mind at ease.

The 2008 Mini Cooper Convertible is clearly about a fun yet powerful ride that will surely take you to places.

That Red Car Catches the Eye

March 26th, 2008

The follow-up to Colbie Caillat’s hit debut, “Bubbly”, is a song called “Realize.” It reminded me of her first music video, only minus the beach. It gives off the same relaxing effect, a chamomile tea if her videos could ever be compared to anything.

In this video, Colbie is riding yet another tough yet attractive vehicle, a red Alpha Romeo convertible. It’s definitely a classic and the new model is made even more attractive – in more ways than one. The Alfa Spider looks sleek and commanding and the same could be said regarding its engine. Alfa has created three powerful engines: two petrol and one turbodiesel. There’s the 3.2 JTS V6, the 2.2 JTS and the 2.4 JTDM. All of them are Euro 4 compliant. It gives great control and reliable braking. Pondering about the steering? No worries about that, since it’s precise. The front of the car has high wishbones that ensure real lateral stability. The rear, on the other hand, has Multilink dedicated to ease when it comes to maneuvering.

This model is available in ten various colors and has three interior trims and four different kinds of seat upholstery. Other good stuff on the inside? There’s built-in restraints on the sports seats. Not just that but the dual-zone automatic climate control system gives you a ride that is far more comfortable than the usual. The interior fuses functionality and technology. It comes with an infor-telematic system that’s comprised of a handy satellite navigator, radio/CD player, GSM that’s completely hands-free, voice controls, and bCONNECT infomobility services. The sounds are made more enjoyable with the Bose Sound System.

There’s a lot more that could be said regarding this smooth car and it seems most of them belong to the thumbs up category. Elegant and sophisticated, sleek yet powerful, modern and reliable. The Alfa Spider is obviously one attractive ride.

I remember the first time I heard the song “Bubbly” by Colbie Caillat. I was having one of those days which seemed to start off wrong and kept going on wrong. Then the car radio suddenly blasted this calming song and it was an instant hit with me.

It starts in my toes
And I crinkle my nose
Wherever it goes I always know
That you make me smile
Please stay for a while now
Just take your time
Wherever you go

The video was just as soothing and relaxing. Colbie was seen driving an older model of a Jeep Wrangler. I wanted a Jeep of my own then and there. This year’s Wrangler model comes in nine different colors (the steel blue metallic’s my personal choice) and is made even better and even tougher. Safety? Not a thing to worry about. This sturdy 4×4 was given a five-star rating in frontal crash testing. This is guaranteed to give you a better yet lighter and quieter ride. It’s powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine which gives of 202 horsepower and 237 lb.-ft. worth of torque. If towing is in your mind, Jeep has that covered. You get the option of the Trailer Tow Group. This enables you o tow up to 3,500 pounds. Nope, your eyes didn’t just deceive you and I kid you not. That’s 3,500 pounds. This 2008 Jeep Wrangler makes things easier for you with its Electronic Stability Program (ESP). It’s meant to give you ease in controlling the vehicle when making tricky turns. It’s an impressive vehicle, really. It’s made to look tough and it actually lives up to the vibes it gives off

I just wish Colbie was sporting the 2008 Jeep Wrangler in the video instead. She would’ve looked great in the stone white exterior. It would’ve matched well with the overall tone of the video itself, too.

Mariah Carey is back with her new single, “Touch My Body.” This new song of hers was put together by the same set of people responsible for Rihanna’s ultimately successful song entitled “Umbrella.” The video features Mariah and a geeky-looking driver. The first few seconds of the music video showed a dark New Beetle. I initially thought it was Mariah who was going to come down from it and remembered thinking that a New Beetle and Mariah Carey just did not seem to go together. And then this adorably geeky guy steps out from the shiny car and straight to the front door of the mansion. Mariah opens the door clad in a flimsy robe and the music video begins.

The New Beetle isn’t just nice to look at. Volkswagen made sure of its driving capabilities and power. It is definitely well-equipped. It has a cool air condition to battle the heat when it comes, adjustable steering wheel and height-adjustable manual front seats for a more comfortable driving, and cruise control. Those are just naming a few. And should you ever wonder about its engine, well here it is in a nutshell: 2.5-liter in-line 5-cylinder engine which gives off 150 horsepower. What about the torque, you say? It’s 170 lb-ft. This car comes with a 5-speed manual transmission. With its design and reliable performance, this New Beetle cannot possibly be dubbed as just “cute.” That would be underestimating this Beetle’s power.

Everybody knows who 50 Cent and Justin Timberlake are. If you don’t, you’ve been living under a rock (Patrick Star comes to mind…).

The music video for “Ayo Technology” may have been released a year ago already but that fact doesn’t stop it from getting mentioned here in this blog. This particular song is the fourth single in the Curtis album of 50 Cent. Said album is his third. The song was originally titled “Ayo Pornography” but then was changed to “Ayo Technology.” And then it was altered to “She Wants It”, only to revert it back to “Ayo Technology.”

The music video featured 50 Cent with an Aston Martin DB9, a sports car that seems to effectively fuse elegance and power. This is one sports car that isn’t just all about looks. It is powered by a V12 aluminum engine and has a maximum speed of 306 km/h. This is one lean, mean driving machine! Justin Timberlake, who is also in the video, gets to sport a Bentley Continental Flying Spur. While the Aston Martin DB9 is all about screaming elegance and sleekness, the Bentley Continental Flying Spur’s fine design is more laid-back. But don’t let its simple sophistication fool you. Nothing is simple about it, especially not when it comes to performance. It has a maximum speed of 312 km/h and is powered by a W12 engine with twin turbochargers and has 552 horsepower. This slick car is included with advanced technology.

Whoever made the decision of what cars to feature in the music video definitely made the right choice.
